Madagascar's income has went down 40% between 1971 and 1991. 70% of the population is defined as poor and 59% majorly poor. Poverty is a big problem in rural areas more than in the urban areas. 86% of the poor and 88% of the extremely poor, live in rural areas. In Madagascar there are no significant differences between the men and women. 92% of Madagascar's is population living on 2 U.S. dollars or less a day. In Madagascar their money is called cordobas. 1 U.S. dollar equals 19 cordobas.
